Would this private category be visible for all site members? For me, it would be even more useful if there were personal private pages for members. It could be restricted to be only one page per user to prevent private sites being built under a public site.
This would be an awesome feature in my site: every member could keep a private personal exercise program there. Maybe it would encourage others to join too to have this "members only" -option.
It could probably be useful for others sites too: for a personal memo or todo-list regarding the site, testing things without others being notified (compared to a traditional sandbox, you could save your experiments there), etc.

This is not in the original design doc, but it is something superguru
RobElliott is also pushing for, so you can assume that you're not the only one that wants this feature :) If it is to be implemented, all bets are that it will not be part of the first implementation.
