There isn't (at least, that I've ever seen used) a way to tell that you've already rated a page without trying to rate it again. For example, as I scan down the list of "Top Needs", it would be nice to know what I've already voted for without first clicking on it, and then clicking on the rating control.
This is not doable because pages are not generated per-user but rather cached for all visitors, or at least, visitors of a certain class.
However it should be possible to rate a page from the summary, and ignore attempts to re-rate a page.
I couldn't find a better place to put this, but it's something I was just wondering about and, hey, Tuesday rant.
One of our admins moved a page on our wiki (metroplexity.wikidot.com aliased to wiki.metroplexity.com)
From: Midgard Spider Drone
To: Midgard SD1
Which usually goes really smoothly and is actually one of my favorite features. In this case, something glitched up interestingly. "Recent Changes" says that the page was moved and that other pages were updated to reflect the change.
The other pages are pointing correctly. The old page is now empty, but the new page is also empty, showing a "The page does not exist" message. However, when you click on "create page" it errors out saying that the page does exist.
Both the admin and I are experiencing the same behavior. Checked both through the alias and directly. Cleared cache and cookies and all that good stuff.
Anyway, it's not a huge problem, just wanted to bring it to your attention because it's kind of neat. And might have caused some heartbreak to my users if it were a more important page.
Cheers!

It looks like a problem with the internal cache. We cleaned that manually for the page, which now appears correctly. It's a bug in the rename code that does not clean the cache for that page, I guess. I'll make an issue. Thanks for reporting this!
This is what my admin had:
As I recall, I was working in multiple tabs, and I think I made an edit to another page while the renaming process for Midgard SD1 was still underway. I may have accidentally clicked a link somewhere immediately after (or during, if that's possible?) the renaming process, but I'm not certain. No error messages, I'm afraid.
Glad it's fixed, sorry I can't be more helpful with the specifics. I was pretty tired and not very perceptive at the time.
Hope that helps. Sorry we don't have better information on the exact situation.
Cheers!

@Kinak, thanks for the info. I'll note it in our bug tracker in any case, and if it happens again we'll spend some time making a reproducible case.
Cheers
Pieter
Actually, that reminds me. A co-admin and I experienced a similar problem on a private wiki about a month ago. The page claimed that it didn't exist and provided the link to create a page in that location. Yet when trying to create it, it claimed that the page already existed. Clearing cache etc did not seem to fix the issue. As far as I remember, this also occurred after a rename but I can't be 100% certain.
A few hours later, the page seemed to fix itself and we could once again see the content.
@pieterh: In our situation, there were no 500 errors, just the generic "this page doesn't (yet!) exist - click here to create it" message.

Right. It's a problem with the internal (server-side) cache. This means that clearing your cache won't make a difference. After a while the server-side cache will be reset. I'm thinking that modifying the category template for the page would have the same effect.
It's a bug, for sure, but unless we can reproduce it, we can't fix it.
