I believe all off-road cars get stuck from time to time. Unless you drive them city-only. And the rule is: The more "off-road" your car is, the further you can drive before you are stuck :-) We got stuck quite close :-(

But seriously — recovery equipment is a must to enjoy the fun.

Now I would like at least a cheap hi-lift, chain and rope that I could use as a winch in such situations.

But here is a good piece of fun you can have without getting stuck in the mud. Not hard-core by any means, but very enjoyable for those who decided to go for it a while ago:

Michal, I don't mean to offend in any way, I just wanted to post this because I think the incident was funny (because the girl got what she deserved) and it fits to the topic:

2. Make sure you have skills, knowledge and equipment

My wife used to be engaged in offroading when she was younger. She had an old model Toyota Land Cruiser with Super Swampers (the car still exists and is in traffic actually, but with (more) normal tires).

There was another girl offroader, a cocky girl with a Jeep. When the group of off-roaders were talking about off-road cars in general, the girl announced that "I don't have an off-road car, I have a Jeep". Shortly afterwards, she got stuck.

Maybe that was because she didn't have an off-road car ;)

What a mess! ;-) I've been in a few muddy situations myself, but luckily haven't been completely bogged yet (*touch wood*). Generally I try to avoid it… which means I miss out on a lot of that fun you're talking about!

Personally I believe the experience that comes from failures is one of the most valuable.

This, I definitely agree with.

You learn more from your failures, than you do from your successes.

Personally I believe the experience that comes from failures is one of the most valuable.

Very true!

Reminds me of a time when a few friends of mine and I decided to try and cross a greenbelt by following a creek. We went in confident, but forty minutes later that forest spat us back out with a vengeance. Turns out we only traveled some 300 meters in before we had to turn back from all of the thorns mosquitoes, and mud XD

Well, I'm glad you all are all right. I suppose if you store a 4x4 tractor in the trunk, you'll have a decent Plan B ;)

Yeah, other than dirty and tired we were fine after all. Washing our clothes up was a big challenge though :-)

means - who had the work to take all the mud ( effects) away at home?

I am affraid, I do not like failures like such a trip into "nowhere".. without biwak-Tent or fire-light ( gas-lamp)..

Hope you are all well again without injuries?
best regards
Helmut
