Wikidot services have been unavailable during the last hour today, between 17.30 and 18.20 UTC. The problems have been caused by some disks going down at our datacenter. I will post more details later on. We are still working on improving performance because Wikidot still operates on reduced number of servers.
UPDATE (19.26 UTC): Wikidot seems to be running at full speed despite large portion of Amazon Web Services being down. We will keep monitoring the situation.
UPDATE (20.15 UTC): Situation is stable. We will recover remaining parts of Wikidot.com tomorrow. It is good to have redundancy on multiple levels :-)
UPDATE (6.29 UTC, the next day): It looks like AWS, our cloud provider, was experiencing serious issues yesterday. Several other web services that depend on Amazon were affected. See http://status.aws.amazon.com
Best regards,
Michał
It looks like Wikidot.com was not the only one affected: several popular services that depend on AWS were taken down, including Reddit, Coursera, Flipboard, FastCompany, Heroku, Airbnb, Github, VYou, Foursquare, Pinterest and many more.
Shame this happened, but we learned how to manage such critical situations at Amazon Web Services. We will try to automate as much of failover procedures as possible to prevent such situations.
It is also important to note that despite the outage there was not even a slightest risk of losing any data. And by looking at duration of outages of other services, we did pretty well.

The site which I was a member of and contributor to (macewan.wikidot.com) has suddenly disappeared. Is this something to do with this problem? If not, how could this have happened without warning?
Thank you for any help with this.
Best wishes,
Thor
No this would be nothing to do with the recent problem. It looks like whoever was master admin of the site has deleted it.
Rob Elliott - Strathpeffer, Scotland - Wikidot first line support & community admin team.
If the MA has deleted the site, your best option is to contact them and request that they reverse the deletion, and let you take over (if they don't want to handle it any more).

I noticed it but it wasn't long at all.
I have 4 servers, and I care % of down time, if it s happening regularly then there is a problem. This seems to be a usual one.
