You're very welcome, Pieter! As I already said, you guys, are always so kind to me, so it was my turn… I am really glad I had the opportunity to help, and I do hope that this time no Wikipedian will come up with such a stupid idea like deleting Wikidot article… ;)

Hooray for Brunhilda!
Have you got a backup of the whole thing?
Kenneth Tsang (@jxeeno)
The present version is at my user subpage, and it will stay there, there is no need to be worried for at least this text, since nobody has right to delete any user's subages, whatever they put there. Now, I also think that the article looks pretty good now so express deletion without voting is out of question. And if voting for deletion happens (which I sincerely doubt), we will have time to save the latest version of an article. Even if they delete it, it is not deleted completely, so it is always possible to recuperate it by asking nicely some administrator or a steward. Well… I must say that this part (if it comes that far, which I doubt), someone else should do, since I am a kind of allergic to Wikipedia administrators, stewards byrocrats or whatever "big bosses" there…

my tuesday rant is that modules are case sensitive. im constantly putting modules on my sites, and then they dont work, only for me to find out later that i put [[module Listpages]] instead of [[module ListPages]]
Hmm… good point. Even case-insensitive strings would uniquely map to modules…

I "ranted" about this last February in the form of a Pro wish: http://pro.wikidot.com/ticket:223
I'm glad you posted this so maybe it gets a bump! We got a partial fix n that variable names are now lower case.

Maybe we should look if we need to update something or put some references…

My first rant, is that there is no user variable.
My second one, is that there has not been another pro competition. Or, there's this option. (What's funny, is that the poor guy hasn't made a post in 300 something days. It must have scared him off…)
a %%user%% variable would be nice, and maybe a [[ifuser]] module.
Aargh! (pirate speak)
Me maties are not seasoned software sailors, and they (still) think they are not logged on, and sit at their desks staring at the screen for interminible amounts of time (long enough to get scurvy) before calling me and telling me it doesn't work.
Please, please fix this soon. This is not a feature, but a problem. And I don't really want to teach the work-around, even if it is just closing the window and hitting refresh….

um…
i personally like the new login
spam?
don't think so. But i am wondering if people who have added the the latest version of msn and all the crap that comes with it that gets loaded into IE? are having trouble logging in at all.
i just ran some tests and had to disable all the "live add in" to get logged on
not spam….and i really like most features of Wikidot!
I have a private site, https:series25-uidaho.wikidot.com. Since the new pop-up authentication window was employed, here is what happens after the user enters credentials (in both IE and Mozilla):
1. the popup stays open and says :waiting….and done.
2. the user has to close the window
3. the nav bar on the site doesn't become active unless the user refreshes the browser
4. in essence, there is no feedback that the user is logged on, or that they can access the site
5. it's the less technical folks that i'm trying to get to become active members, and they are the ones getting tripped up.
If somebody wants to become a temporary member and see if they share this experience, i'd welcome the chance for feedback…and support, of course! ;-)

Hi Tammy-not-spam,
We've had reports of this problem, and I experienced it once, but we were unable to reproduce it. It is definitely a bug and obviously we treat it as serious.
Thanks for pointing to a concrete reproducible case, this was what we were lacking. We'll aim to have this fixed tomorrow.
Portfolio
Tammy, could you invite me to the site so that I can confirm the problem? Thanks.

OK, problem reproduced. Tammy, this is a bug, not the way it's meant to work. It'll be fixed by tomorrow. Sorry for the annoyance and thanks for helping us track it down.

Dear Pieter,
You are fabulous! Thanks so much. I feel bad complaining about a service that is really great and costs me nothing but my own time and effort. But now I am hooked and have high expectations. And I will have to provide a testimonial to the world soon announcing my satisfaction with and high regard for your services!
Sincerely,
Tam-not-spam (i kinda like this moniker!)

Dear Tam-not-spam,
Yes, we are fabulous, but only thanks to people like you who help us make things work better.
Turns out, the problem was due to using SSL on the site, which did crazy things to the poor popup window.
It should all work much better now.
Keep your expectations in check, though, we're just human… :-)

"Turns out, the problem was due to using SSL on the site, which did crazy things to the poor popup window."
Well, that explains why I was nearly alone in wringing my hands. And yes, works great now. Thanks!

You took the time to explain the problem and make it easy for us to fix it… thanks for that.
And welcome to the Wikidot community, TNS, we're really happy to have you here!

wow, now i feel stupid thinking this was spam, (idk, maybe it was the "pirate-speak") but i dont know, i kinda like the pirate speak and maybe you should write that testimony you were talking about in "pirate-speak" that would be awesome.
and yes, welcome to the community "tam-not-spam" ;-)
thanks, rhombus — this is just for you: ;-)
All Hands Hoay! Avast, all ye Jack Tars! Thar shall be triple rations o’ grog from the Hogshead this day, for yer Cap’n, Tam-not-spam, has stumbled upon plunder-o-plenty. So gather round, ye Scallywags, and I’ll tell you a tale that’ll set all yer timbers a shiverin’ with awe and warm the rusted cockles of yer scurvy hearts like St. Elmo's fire.
Arrr! Thar’s a ship christened Wikidot sailing the dotcom seas, and she’s chock-full o-treasure just fer the takin’. Yarrr, that’s true. Her barnacle-headed Cap’n, Michal, and salty first mate, Pieter, be passing out riches hand-over-fist. They be knot-headed fer certain. Yer Cap’n, Tam-not-spam, sportin’ neither sword, nor blunderblus, merely wagged tongue and the chowder-heads handed over the booty. It were that easy. Aargh, me Hearties, this aren’t no hornswaggle neither. We’re now filthy with swag! So pass the grog and dance, you salty dogs! Yo, ho, ho!
Yo, ho, ho, indeed!
There was just a mutiny on the boat I'm traveling on. Can we get you to take over as our new Cap'n? (That, or can I hire you to come and entertain all the little ghosts and goblins on Halloween?
