All Wikidot users are equal, but some are definitely more equal than others. We're going to introduce a new karma calculation and a sixth level, Superguru that will be a mix of algorithm and human review (cheaters will be booted). As a first step towards that, we've given all blue, brown, and black belt experts more or less unlimited sites (actually 1,000). Supergurus will also get this power.
If you want to start a new site and have run out of slots, ask one of these folk to help you. You'll not only get your site, but also find yourself a new friend who is able to help with advice and review:

- Brunhilda

- James Kanjo
- Sue Firth
- Helmut_pdorf
- tsangk
- RobElliott
- Phil Chett
- Ed Johnson
- ErichSteinboeck
- gerdami

All these folk have done extraordinary work with and for the community. Perhaps you know others who have contributed significantly and who aren't on this list… tell us, then.
Wow, thank you Pieter. I was down to zero left. One favour, could you make sure that this is put onto my public persona please? suef. Thanks!
Sue
… and I was never thanked at http://blackbelt.wikidot.com/ … if I exclude pieterh's thanks …
C'est trop injuste !

I missed some Wikidot VIPs:
Guys, my apologies: because the blackbelt site is quite recent, you're not on it but I think I speak for many happy Wikidot users when I say we really appreciate all you do/have done for the Wikidot community and I'm sending superguru powers your way. Use them wisely! :-)
Sue, coming up, will probably hit tomorrow.

Thanks Pieter you are too kind. I try to help out where & when I can, but I probably haven't done anywhere near as much for Wikidot as most of the black/blue/brown belts.
It is always interesting to hear more about the Wikidot programmers & gurus. I was interested to hear you started out programming on a Vic-20 (I didn't get started until the Commodore 64), and the Michal is an Astrophysicist and that some of the gurus are so young. Seems to be a few other Australians actively involved too.
I think a map of where the wikidot contributors / gurus live might be interesting, I started work on one for my main site - http://lgam.wikidot.com/user-map - does anyone else like the idea?

I like the idea. What's involved? Would it be possible to allow any Wikidot user to put themselves on the map?
For some reason we have a lot of Australians here, perhaps because Wikidot's English is also so terrible… :-) Just kidding!

I've set up a Google Map and allowed everyone to edit it.
I have quickly knocked up a site, and I will try to do a bit more work on it tomorrow.

If someone would like to test the link to the map - I haven't done proper instructions yet, but there is a link to the map here:

I'll be back in the morning. It is nearly time for bed here in Australia.

then we can make suggestions in the right place instead of here. :-)
edit:-
which was what i was gonna do. Only i didn't have perms.
So how did Ed mange to edit it?
Oh! that will be the Join button then.
DOH!
Ed has put some great instructions on Wayne's page to help you find the blue pin!
Unless you're on a linux desktop, that is, and then it doesn't seem to work. I had to blow the dust off a windoze pc to find the blue pin! The ellusive edit button has now appeared. I know, you're thinking user error, but I tried 3 or 4 times before resorting to windows. Since adding my pin there, the edit button has miraculously appeared on linux - firefox on both pc's. Weird, huh? Hope no-one else has such issues!
Ed, how's the scurvy? ;-)

I've practically morphed into a summer/holiday user of wikidot (this weekend is OU-Texas weekend, it's bigger than thanksgiving down here =) ), but I'm honored to be included despite long absences. Tons of services take major user contributions for granted, but wikidot has done an amazing job recently at openly and notoriously appreciating some of its most dedicated users. Some of the people on that list do things that really can't be bought in ways that only fans could. They make wikidot better for all of us, and I tip my hat to them, and to wikidot for rewarding their loyalty.
To anyone reading, I'm happy to lend a hand if you're up against a site limit, but during semesters, my responses can be delayed a bit. I'm also happy to lend advice on blog building, my main expertise, though looking over recent developments, I may be falling behind a little on technique. This place is really hopping. 0.o
I'm gobsmacked. !
Thank you.

Thanks Pieter, this was a nice surprise!
It will probably be a long while until I would ever need it, but what about storage space? If I'm doing the math right, we'll only be able to give a few MB to each site if we go crazy making new sites.
Thanks again, this is very nice of you…

Good question… most of my sites never use any storage space at all. My very best theme, Minimalist, uses no graphics at all. But people insist on using that file uploader, even though we did our very best to make it unusable…
OK, (waves toenail waxer to pause for a minute and makes executive decision probably heavily influenced by heavy metal group "In Vitro" that are playing in the Torun (PL) "beer 'n rock 'n wifi" bar called 'Lizard King' where I'm working right now) superguru status (and its mock equivalent that we've handed out to the top belts) will include pretty much unlimited disk space.
That works for you?
Portfolio
No, I need more than unlimited space! :) Like I said, it will be a long time before I may need more than I had before.
Just to clarify for those listening - the only thing that counts against storage space is file uploads, correct?
You know, you could have turned this into a money-making scheme!
"We'll give you 1000 sites, and if you run out of storage space we can help you out for a small fee…"

Hey… psychic abilities… Ed, I'm impressed!
This is actually almost verbatim one of my ideas for, hmm, encouraging site admins to open their wallets. The idea was to open all the taps on private sites, number of sites, members per private site, etc. while reducing very sharply the file storage space for uploads.
Portfolio
LOL! That's twice today I've been told I'm psychic! (suef said the same thing when I PMed her about the photo-gallery template just before she announced her review). Must be the phase of the moon or something…

I am very thankful to have all of you around working so hard. I could not do what I do with out you - so kudos to one and all of you. You deserve the superguru powers!! :)
