Maybe this could be made into a CSI.

Ahem… I forgot that Shane has also made a CSI package:
Doesn't have an autoplay function.

Mine is nowhere near as awesome as this one though ;-)
And I practically just copied code from another website… made it easier to add to a wikidot site as a CSI but that's about it :)

Good idea Timothy!
CSIs didn't exist when I made it on the 5th of October. But now that you've reminded me of CSIs, I've gone ahead and implemented it.
I made it so that most positive values are accepted for autoplay: =TRUE, =True, =true, =YES, =Yes, =yes
Now it's even easier to embed MP3s onto your website!
Shane's MP3 player is a lot prettier in pink, so it's best to use that one instead :D
Cool. I tip my hat to you all.
That'd be a nice app for would-be wikidot podcasters.
The MP3 player above is a good one and I have used it myself and it's great for playing individual tracks. But that is its slight disadvantage: it only plays one song. To overcome this limitation I have programmed an MP3 player that has an xml playlist which can contain an unlimited number of songs. This is version 2 of this player; hopefully the critical bugs and programming errors for those who saw version 1 a few weeks ago have all been sorted out.
The MP3 player is programmed in Adobe Flex which produces a flash swf file (version 9 of flash is required). The playlist is an xml file which can be changed in a simple text editor like Notepad and just needs the name of the artist, the song title and the name of the MP3 file. The MP3 player, the xml playlist and the MP3 files all get uploaded to the same page on your site. The player is then loaded in an iframe.
The playlist can be sorted by artist or title by clicking on the headers in the playlist. The default order is the order of songs in the xml file.
Full instructions for installing it on your page and other information about it are on my page at http://www.strathviewconsultants.co.uk/support:mp3. I hope the instructions are clear.
So this is the result. Just click on a song to play it. Please give it a try and let me know if it does or doesn't work for you and what you think could be improved. It probably won't work on Safari on a Mac but other browsers and Operating Systems seem fine.

Rob, good news, it's working perfectly in Safari on a Mac, as does Firefox on a Mac… is there a reason it would perform otherwise?
Version 1 didn't work on Safari on a Mac so I rather assumed v2 might not either. But there were a lot of bugs with v1.

That's strange… because your V1 worked fine in Safari on my Mac. Perhaps you were using an old Mac with an outdated version of Flash?
No it was reported to me. Sadly I don't own a mac anymore so can't test these things. I can't recall who reported the problem but I think you are correct and suspect they had an old version of flash.

i just thought that i would show something that i have done with my MP3 player on my website. for now it still uses the old code, but notice what i did with divs to make it display in that nice little floating box and the bottom right hand corner of the screen
check it out here
Nice!
Sorry to post this off-topic question in this thread but can you put anything floating like that? I have a metronome (Google gadget) in nav:side at my site and when scrolling down, it gets out of sight. It would be cool if it floated like that so you could change the tempo anytime without scrolling up.

yes you can, here is the code that i used on my site
just change the iframe to the code for you metronome and it should work :D although you may have to change the div height and width a little.
EDIT: i also put the floating mp3 player here now so you can see it here :D
EDIT: I removed this, please do not do that again. - Pieterh
@the-guy-who-posted-a-mp3-autoplayer-on-this-post
In my opinion, imposing an autostart music player on a public site that you don't own is a breach of WCPG "3.1. Seriously disruptive behavior".
Since it's the topic of this thread…
But people may be advised not to do the same on other pages.

Yes. I've removed that code from your post, rhombus_p.
